About

  1. What is Mazda MX-5 Miata World II all about?
Miata World II is the 20th anniversary celebration of our beloved Miata, the event of the decade, where you can meet with other Miata enthusiasts.
  2. Why do I want to come?
Why wouldnt you? Why would you miss the premier Miata event of the decade?
  3. Why should I register?
    • It is easy! Registration is online only. Should you have any difficulty in doing so, please contact us at [email protected].
    • Registration is $300.00 per person. This registration covers all planned meals, banquets, and the vendors alley and also includes access to all events at Texas Motor Speedway, all rallies, all drives, and all tours.
    • There?s something else?. all registered attendees are eligible to WIN THE CAR!
  4. What should I bring?
    • Your Miata and your Miata attitude? this party is all about having a great time
    • Summer clothes. Have you seen the weather forecast around here?
    • Sunscreen is a must, the Texas sun can be extreme.
    • Sunglasses
    • Closed-toed shoes for track events
    • Cash
    • Miata attitude
    • Pins, hats, T-shirts, etc. to trade
    • Photos from your club outings and from Miata World
    • Car cleaning materials
    • GPS, (not necessary but will make your life easier)
    • GMRS radios (used for all event communications, get em Canellas, Wal-mart, pep-Boys, etc) can be very handy for tours and drives, but are not required. We will be monitoring specific GMRS channels to provide information and aid. GMRS radios are the extended range radios that grew from the FRS bands. If your FRS radio has 22 base channels (plus side bands), it is a GMRS radio. Ones with maximum theoretical ranges of 20 + miles are very nice and work well. The FM bands of the GMRS has little or no static; they are compact and require no external antenna; and, the NC?s with their aluminum hoods and trucks lids do not provide an adequate ground plane for CB antennas.
  5. Who may attend?
    • Anyone may attend Miata World II. All attendees must register, and pay the appropriate registration fees.
    • Children are welcome, however, there are no activities at Miata World II for children. Although we have no events that are particularly children friendly, children are permitted. They must be registered, and children under the age of 14 are not permitted in cars participating in events at the Texas Motor Speedway.
    • The hotel is child-friendly. Please note, that children attending ANY Miata World II function, must be a paid and registered attendee.
  6. What else is there to do in the area?
Take a look at our Local Information page for more information.
  7. What to wear?
    • What to wear..... get this question daily. It is Texas, so casual is a must. It will be warm and humid. Expect temps in the low 80s to low 90s, with humidity. Dress accordingly.
    • Dressy attire for the banquets? Not me. Formal for me, and this event, would be pants that zip, and a shirt that buttons up, instead of pulls over, but dress any way you want.
    • One evening will be a luau theme, so throw in a Hawaiian shirt and some sandals. Grass skirts and coconut bras are optional.
    • If you are participating in any of the track events, you will need to wear closed-toed shoes, such as sneakers - no sandals. No other special requirements. You may wear short sleeved shirts and short pants.
    • Your Miata World II t-shirt will always be appropriate, extras will be available for purchase.

A unique, one-of-a-kind, Miata MX-5 will be awarded as a door prize to the drawn winner.
We dont know what the car looks like, and Mazda isnt talking. We may not know before the event. Weve been told that the car given away at Miata World II will be a unique 2010 Miata. The car will be built and then shipped to a dealer local to the winner.

  3. Will I have to pay anything?
You will be responsible for any applicable federal or state taxes, including tax, title and license. Delivery will be to a dealer near your home
  4. What are the rules for winning the car?
You will be given a ticket at registration.
You are responsible for placing that ticket in the raffle drum, located in the exhibit hall, Longhorn B, keeping the stub.
You must have the stub to win. Lost or stolen stubs cannot be replaced.
The drawing will be at the Saturday Luau. You MUST be present to win. That means in the banquet hall, when the winning number is called. An announcement of the pending drawing will give everyone plenty of notice.
The winner will be responsible for any and all state, federal, or local taxes applicable, as well as title and license fees for your locale.

  2. What about the planned track events?
    • Track events are for FUN. All may run as much as you want, with no set time, and in consideration of others wanting to run as well.
    • You will get in line, run the track, and go to the next event, or run the track again (after getting back in line), for as long as the event is open.
    • The currently planned events include:
      • Autocross - Autocross will be timed and awards will be given to the best times in a number of classes. Opportunities for all skills levels, including newbies, will be provided.
      • Parade and Hot laps on the Infield Road Course- the infield road course will be set up much like a giant autocross. You will not be driving wheel-to-wheel, but at your own pace. Novices will not be intimidated by experienced drivers.
      • Parade and Hot laps on the High Bank Oval - You will have a chance to drive the TMS quad-oval. The format of that specific event is still being planned, but you will have the opportunity to use the speed with which you are comfortable.
  3. Is there any required equipment?

    Insurance waiver form
Track waiver form - must complete and turn in as you enter the track on Sunday *REQUIRED to enter the track*
  5. What is a funcana?
A funcana is an event where you play games, safely, in your car. The Central Florida Miata Club has a great explanation at http://www.invisiblesun.org/Funcana/.
  6. What must my car have?
Prior to being allowed to participate in driving events your car must pass a technical inspection. Tech Inspection is there to make sure your car meets basic safety qualifications. Tech will check for :
    • A secured battery
    • Loose wheel bearings
    • Loose wheels
    • Wheel covers and center caps removed
    • Tire condition
    • Positive response on your accelerator (throttle spring)
    • Good pressure in your brake system
    • General viewing of obvious structural elements
    • In addition, one of the requirements to run is that your vehicle is emptied of all loose objects, from floor mats to loose change, and tech makes sure youve done that. Any items that are not part of the interior (Cameras, GPS devices, fire extinguishers, etc) must be securely mounted.

If tech determines that your car is not safe you wont be allowed to participate in driving events. Tech inspectors will communicate the specific reasons for not passing, and will work with participants as much as possible to help them pass. Tech exists to help keep our operation safe.
