The lungs are very sensitive and can easily be damaged during the donation recovery process. This challenge combined with the need for lungs and safety concerns when transporting lungs, requires the donation and transplantation community to explore technologies that can 1) increase the availability of lungs, 2) allow for a method for regeneration of lungs that may not be optimal, and 3) reduce the risks that can occur during recovery and transportation. During this webinar we will explore two different technologies and their impact on improving lung availability and lung performance. The one technology could help to increase the number of DCD lung recoveries and helps to regenerate lungs and the second technology can help to prevent lung damage and explores the technique of “breathing lung” recovery.
Members of the donation and transplantation community serving diverse populations to include administrators, coordinators, physicians, nurses, surgeons, managers, quality improvement specialists, social workers, and other donation and transplantation center professionals and their colleagues.
By the end of the webinar the participant will be able to:
- Describe the two technologies available for lung recovery and to improve lung functionality.
- Identify how technology could help to increase DCD lung recoveries.
- Define and explain the process of a breathing lung transplant.
