Purpose/Goal:

The goal of this webinar is to provide an update on the outcomes and impact of the changes to the Deceased Donor Kidney Transplant Allocation System (commonly known as KAS) implemented in December 2014. These changes, were designed to optimize the efficiency of allocation, increase utilization, improve access to transplantation, and improve transplant outcomes.

Target Audience:  

Members of the donation and transplantation community serving diverse populations to include administrators, coordinators, physicians, nurses, surgeons, managers, quality improvement specialists, social workers, and other donation and transplantation professionals and their colleagues.
 
Learning Objectives:
 
At the end of the webinar, participants should be able to:
  • Describe the basic changes to the kidney allocation system implemented in 2014.
  • Articulate the intent of these changes in terms of access to transplant for different candidate populations.
  • Identify the data on relevant metrics predicated to be affected by the KAS changes, including types of patients transplanted, utilization, and survival outcomes.
