Purpose/Goal:

The purpose of this webinar is to provide hospitals, organ procurement organizations, and transplant staff with an explanation of the expedited donation after circulatory determination of death (DCDD) opportunities. These opportunities allow for increased donation potential for potential donors and their families. We will discuss the timing needed to allow these donations to occur and the difference in process versus a normal DCDD. At the end of the webinar, regardless of your role, you should understand why expedited DCDD is important and what actions you will be driving forward to provide a successful outcome.

Target Audience:

Members of the donation community serving diverse populations to include administrators, coordinators, physicians, nurses, surgeons, managers, quality improvement specialists, social workers, and other donation professionals and their colleagues.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the webinar, participants should be able to

  • Explain the difference between DCDD and expedited DCDD.
  • Explain the role they will take regardless of their position as hospital team members, organ procurement organization team members, or transplant professionals.
  • Describe how allowing for expedited DCDD donors will increase available organs for transplant.
  • Identify any restrictions DCDD can have on potential organ placement.
