Integral Psychotherapy: Matching Therapeutic Interventions with Identity Development

Thursday, June 23, 2016
The Brattleboro Retreat
8:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Mark Forman, PhD

Philosopher Ken Wilbur’s Integral Theory is one of the most holistic, comprehensive and popular frameworks for understanding human experience ever devised, meshing the psychological, spiritual, scientific, cultural, and social into an integrated whole. Integral Psychotherapy is a cutting-edge approach to working with people that combines the best of many systems of therapy. In this conference, Mark Forman, PhD, Lead Trainer of the Certified Integral Psychotherapist (CIT) Training Program in North Bay and Los Angeles, California, will outline multiple stages of adult identity development in addition to the more widely recognized childhood stages. Attendees will learn the nature of and evidence for making direct connections between these stages and specific theoretical orientations, therapeutic interventions, and treatment goals. Participants will leave with skills for stage assessment and treatment and stage matching as well as a powerful lens through which to view their clients.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to

1) Describe the five basic components of the Integral Psychotherapy model.

2) Describe the evidence supporting the “stages” component of the Integral Psychotherapy model, specifically the construct of identity development and its relationship to key client variables.

3) Describe the pre-conventional, conventional, and post-conventional identity stages and their relationship to different types of therapeutic orientations and interventions.

4) Utilize common assessment markers to recognize a client’s identity stage (or “stage-range”).

5) Utilize an approach to therapeutic intervention that matches treatments and goals to clients in a developmentally sensitive way.
