Module 5: Managing Learning Experiences with Culturally and Generationally Diverse Students

SUMMARY

The United States has been founded on the integration of multiple cultures, a process which is continuing and expanding. The diversity of the population is beginning to be mirrored by diversity in basic nursing education resulting in the need for preceptors to work with students who differ from them culturally and generationally. Culture and generationally differences affect not only how nursing students learn but also how they apply their values and beliefs. Preceptors need to be able to understand the basis of cultural differences to be able to relate to these students and help in the process of educating the next generation of nurses.
