Cara Weiss is a data analytic senior lead at Mathematica. She is an expert in data quality, analytics, system specifications and testing, and data management.
Weiss’s work focuses on data quality and analytics projects, primarily for Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). She has experience producing and implementing data quality rules, defining data elements, and designing reporting systems that enable policymakers to obtain actionable information. Most recently, this includes developing a data quality program to support the implementation of a new administrative dataset for Medicaid and CHIP, the Transformed Medicaid Statistical Information System. She has led the development and implementation of automated and semiautomated data quality checks that are used to provide actionable information about data quality to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and states. Weiss has been involved in efforts to design and document new systems for a new Medicaid and CHIP data environment as part of the Medicaid and CHIP Business Information Solutions initiative as well as other federal Medicaid data systems used for state reporting, including 1115 demonstration waiver performance monitoring. The goal of these efforts is to improve the ability to make data-driven decisions about Medicaid and CHIP. She has also produced data and system specifications and conducted system testing for projects in other areas, such as U.S. Department of Labor programs and physician quality reporting.
Before joining Mathematica in 2009, Weiss was a research associate at Caliper, where she served as lead statistical analyst. She holds an M.S. in statistics from Rutgers University.
