Session Title
A Discussion About Discussions: Increasing Student Interaction in Discussion Boards
To implement stronger discussion boards, Athens State University has created a technique that instructors, students and QM Reviewers agree make the discussions more interactive and enjoyable. This session discusses implementation of the technique.

Dr. Mark Gale, Assistant Professor of Instructional Design, Athens State University
Dr. Gale has worked in information systems, multimedia production, and instructional design for the past 15 years. He has served as the Director of Academic Technologies and Instructional Design for the past 6 years in which one of his responsibilities was the oversite of the university's Quality Matters Initiative. He is a strong advocate of online education and his research interests include finding ways to mimic the pedagogical styles of traditional classroom teaching in the digital realm.

Mrs. Lynn Frank, Instructional Designer, Athens State University
Lynn Frank is an instructional designer on Athens States University's campus, where she works as a team with faculty members to bring their students quality courses through Quality Matters.

Lynn has enjoyed a career in information technology services, as an instructor for the College of Business and as an instructional designer. She has designed courses in the fields of management, psychology, and education.

When Lynn is not on campus she enjoys hiking, reading a good book and traveling.

Dr. Kim Roberts, Associate Professor of Operations Management, Athens State University
Kim Roberts is an Associate Professor of Operations Management at Athens State University in Athens, Alabama. Kim holds a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alabama, an MBA from the UNA, and a Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership with concentration in Instructional Technology from the University of Alabama. Kim has almost 20 years of experience in private industry and 12 years experience in higher education. She is certified as a QM Higher Education Peer Reviewer.
