Session Title
Growing from the Ground Up: Implementing QM While Changing a Campus Culture
In Fall 2017, Athens State University began a QM initiative. The one rule is the process must be voluntary. With over 30 QM certifications since that time, this session will discuss the techniques used for changing the culture on campus.
Learning Objectives
Identify a preparatory process to put in place prior to a QM initiative to prepare it for success.
List resources and personnel used by Athens State University during the QM initiative.
Discuss suggestions for initial setup at participants' campuses and potential future program growth.

Dr. Mark Gale, Assistant Professor of Instructional Design, Athens State University
Dr. Gale has worked in information systems, multimedia production, and instructional design for the past 15 years. He has served as the Director of Academic Technologies and Instructional Design for the past 6 years in which one of his responsibilities was the oversite of the university's Quality Matters Initiative. He is a strong advocate of online education and his research interests include finding ways to mimic the pedagogical styles of traditional classroom teaching in the digital realm.

Mrs. Lynn Frank, Instructional Designer, Athens State University
Lynn Frank is an instructional designer on Athens States University's campus, where she works as a team with faculty members to bring their students quality courses through Quality Matters.

Lynn has enjoyed a career in information technology services, as an instructor for the College of Business and as an instructional designer. She has designed courses in the fields of management, psychology, and education.

When Lynn is not on campus she enjoys hiking, reading a good book and traveling.

Mr. Gary Valcana, Associate Professor of Management and Dept. Chair, Athens State University
Gary Valcana has been with Athens State University since 2006. He is an Associate Professor in Management and currently the Department Chair for Human Resources, Heath Care Management, Information Systems Management, Cyber Operations Management, and Graduate Logistics Information Systems. He has personally completed or mentored other faculty to have eight courses certified by QM. Gary has a BS and MS degree in Nursing and an MBA. He’s also proud to say he served in the U.S. Army for 6 years.
