Strategies for Online Teaching and Learning: A Short Course for Best Practices in Online Teaching
A gap in professional development to meet the requirement of online teaching experience was recently identified on our campus. This presentation will discuss how the Strategies for Teaching Online, a fully online course aligned to the QM Rubric, was developed to address the gap.
Discuss the challenges and benefits of online course offerings focused on teaching online.
Explain the course development process that is in alignment with Quality Matters expectations.
Share suggestions and ideas for a professional development course focused on quality.

Dr. Sandra Johnson, Instructional Consultant, New Mexico State University
Sandra R. Johnson, Ph.D., has 25+ years as a professional educator. Her background spans the K-20+ spectrum with 18 years in the classroom (preschool, high school, and higher education) and 11years in providing professional development focused on quality in online education. Dr. Johnson is a Quality Matters coordinator, facilitator, and Master Reviewer for online courses.
Christina Schaub, Instructional Consultant, New Mexico State University
Christina Schaub is an Instructional Consultant for the Online Course Improvement Program at New Mexico State University main campus. She is also a Master Reviewer for Quality Matters. Christina has a Master's degree in Technical and Professional Communication with an interest in writing across the curriculum and within the STEM disciplines. She currently teaches as an adjunct faculty at Dona Ana Community College. In her spare time when not watching British comedies or lurking on Reddit, she likes to read and go horseback riding in the Chihuahuan desert.
Nancy Chartschlla, Instructional Consultant, New Mexico State University
Nancy Chartschlaa is an Instructional Consultant for the Online Course Improvement Program at New Mexico State University main campus. She is also a Quality Matters Master Reviewer. Her background is in Graphic Design and Instructional Technology. Nancy has over 7 years experience developing online and blended courses at the University of Texas at El Paso, Liberty University in Virginia, and currently at New Mexico State University.
