Suicide: Claims Best Practices and Case Studies
A death due to suicide can mean the beneficiary will not receive the contractual death benefit. Is it simply a matter of accepting what is stated on the death certificate? Can you forego a contestable investigation? The short answer is "NO". In this session, we will explore best practices for claims professionals when suicide may be the manner of death on a contestable policy. Using case studies, we will discuss scenarios where the body of evidence, and not the death certificate alone, was needed to determine the true manner of death and ultimate claim decision.
