Mr Jarmichael R Harris, East Carolina University, Collegiate Recovery Community Coordinator
Jarmichael Harris currently serves as the East Carolina University Collegiate Recovery Community Coordinator and Alcohol and Other Drug Staff Counselor for the Center for Counseling and Student Development. Mr. Harris has spent nearly the past decade working in substance use treatment and recovery supports, mostly with adolescents and young adults. He finds his youthfulness and love for the university as an asset in building rapport with the students he encounters. Mr. Harris graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Services and a minor in Alcohol and Drug Studies in 2010, later finishing his master’s degree in Substance Abuse and Clinical Counseling in 2015 and licensed as Clinical Addictions Specialist in 2017. It didn’t take long for Mr. Harris to notice the lack of diversity in the field of Collegiate Recovery, prompting him to insert himself in local and regional conversations regarding recovery support services. Mr. Harris is an active member of the North Carolina Recovery Alliance Initiative and serves as the coordinator for the Eastern Region. Additionally, Mr. Harris serves as the Mid-Atlantic Regional Representative for the Association of Recovery in Higher Education. Mr. Harris was raised in Salisbury, NC and enjoys adventure sports such as rock climbing, whitewater rafting, and obstacle course racing.
