Dr. Linda Lederman, PhD, Arizona State University, Professor and Director Hugh Downs School of Human Communication
Linda Costigan Lederman, (Ph.D., Rutgers University, 1979), is a full professor and Director of the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication at Arizona State University, having served as Dean of Social Sciences from 2007-2012. Author of Health Communication in Everyday Life (2017), Changing the Culture of College Drinking(2006), Voices of Recovery from the Campus (20150)(Ed), and eleven other books and textbooks, and more than 160 journal articles, book chapters and conference paper. Her research has been funded by grants from federal agencies, such as NIAAA, NIDA and DoE totaling more than $8 million. Dr. Lederman has served as an editor of three academic research journals, most recently, the Journal of Groups in Recovery (2015). Prior to joining the faculty at ASU, she was professor of communication at Rutgers University, a member of the faculty of the Rutgers Center for Alcohol Studies, and the founding co-director of the Center for Communication and Health Issues, devoted to the study the role of communication in alcohol use and abuse. In the 1990s she designed Imagine That!, an early simulation of college drinking which was the template a series of the award-winning simulations Sure, and Let’s Talk About It, created with colleagues at Rutgers and later at ASU.
