2019 ARHE/ARS/AAPG Conference Schedule

Mrs Dot A Turton, Recovery Connections, NON PROFIT
Dot Turton is the CEO of Recovery Connections, a Peer Led Organisation based in the North East of England. In 2017 she was awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship to visit Collegiate Recovery Programmes in the USA, an entity that is not considered in the UK. Her first introduction of Collegiate Recovery Programmes was whilst watching The Anonymous People in 2013. Having led on an abstinence based residential rehab it seemed obvious that students in recovery would benefit from peer support on campus.
Persistence and the belief that we can always do more, led her to visit Georgia Southern & UNC in 2016 to find out more. Thanks to Frank Alison & Emily Eisenhart she was inspired to persist and applied for the Churchill Fellowship on the flight back to the UK. This has led to Collegiate Recovery support being provided at Teesside University and the inclusion of a replica of VCU’s Free Hot Coffee bike and Recovery Roast.
Dot feels incredibly grateful to all who have helped her get this far and hopes that Collegiate Recovery spreads across the UK, a far better gift than the grey squirrel!
