How LGBTQ+ Women Disaffiliate From Religion of Origin
Description: The process of leaving one's religion is known as religious disaffiliation. People may choose to disaffiliate for a variety of reasons, including differences in beliefs about sexual orientation. This presentation will explore results from a grounded theory study on LGBTQ+ women's experiences of disaffiliation from their religions of origin. The presenter will highlight themes found through the study and will discuss factors that contributed to participants' decisions to disaffiliate. Clinical implications and areas for future research will be discussed.
Objective(s): At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to: describe the main themes found in LGBTQ+ women's processes of disaffiliation from religion of origin.
