Applied Affirmative Therapy for LGBT Sex & Relationship Therapy Clients
Description: When queer clients seek a sex and relationship therapist, they will usually find numerous 'affirming' listings of potential LGBT sensitive clinicians. Unfortunately, the application of Affirmative Therapy goes far beyond a level of sensitivity and acceptance. Attendees will learn WHY Affirmative Therapy's integrated approach works so effectively for queer couples clients. Theories will be presented that directly relate to these sexual minority clients, including Cognitive, Feminist, and Narrative interventions. Cases & targeted strategies to implore will also be presented.
Objective(s): At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to: identify which theories are integrated within Affirmative Therapy to serve LGBT Relationship & Sex therapy clients Affirmative Therapy theories/approach; recognize within the Affirmative therapy framework the "how", "when" and "who" aspects of Affirmative Therapy practice; analyze case vignettes and collaborate with colleagues to create apropos Affirmative Therapy strategies; create individual plans to build upon content and context knowledge related to applied Affirmative Therapy practice.
