Describing the Nature and Correlates of Health Service Providers' Competency Working with Sexual and Gender Identity Minorities: A Systematic Review
Description: The current systematic review evaluated definitions and correlates of competency that health service providers possess for working with sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) minorities. Results showed approximately half of the studies utilized the full definition of competency (knowledge, attitude, and skill). The most common competency assessed was knowledge and the least common was skill. Competency concerning BDSM practitioners was understudied. Various individual difference correlates of SOGI competency were identified. Implications for research and training will be discussed.
Objective(s): At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to: identify the competencies that health service providers need to work with sexual orientation and gender identity minorities.
