Donna Williamson is the Technology Director for Mountain Brook Schools. Donna worked as a technology teacher and district technology coordinator for a small school district west of Birmingham for 12 years prior to being selected to lead the technology initiative for Mountain Brook Schools in 1994. She has been a thought leader in instructional technology since 1982 working on state and national technology plans and technology education curriculums. She speaks at numerous state and national conferences each year and consults for various school systems. Donna has been quoted in national publications such as District Administration, EdSurge, EdTech, Tech & Learning, edScoop, SIAA publication, American Library Association publication, Education Week, Forbes, eSchool News, and local publications such as AL.com, Village Living, and the Over the Mountain Journal.
Donna was one the founding members for the Alabama Education Technology Association (AETA) now rebranded as Alabama Leaders in Education Technology (ALET) and continues to be an active part of that organization. She is a longtime member of national organizations ISTE and CoSN. She is currently serving on the Executive Committee and National CoSN Board and in active in the Alabama state chapter. Mrs. Williamson is a recipient of the National ISTE Making It Happen Award, the Alabama Education Technology Association Sally Moore Award, National Withrow CTO Award for Educators Honorable Mention, and Alabama’s 2016 Marbury Technology Innovation Award. Mrs. Williamson’s school district was named the 2016 ISTE Distinguished District Award. In 2017, Donna was awarded the EdTech Digest’sTrend Setter Award for envisioning a new reality despite obstacles and by positive example demonstrating a sure way forward in one of the most important fields of human endeavor.
Donna has presented numerous times at the Alabama Education Technology Association (AETA) symposiums (now ALET), Alabama Education Technology Conference (AETC), Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), Mountain Brook Schools Learning Conference, Alabama Association of School Business Officials (AASBO), School Superintendents of Alabama Conference (SSA), T+L Conference, CoSN AL Leaders meetings (CALL) and one or more times at Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) , South by Southwest (SXSW), and the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL), and ISTE. In addition to onsite presentations, she also does webinars for CoSN, InfoSnap(PowerSchool), Gaggle, the Alabama Association of School Boards, FERPA/SHERPA, and other organizations and companies.
She is a founding member and current board member of the Alabama professional organization for technology directors (AETA) and recipient of the AETA Sally Moore Award. She helped write the first technology curriculum and technology plan for the state of Alabama and continues to serve on the state technology plan committee 30 years later. A longtime member of the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), Donna is currently serving as the CoSN Board Secretary. Donna is a founding member and current chairperson for CoSN ALabama Leaders (CALL). Other service includes serving on The Dell Premier Council, STI Advisory Board, as a speaker for AASBO, facilitator for AETC, consultant for other Alabama school districts, and on the COSN Emerging Technologies Committee, CTO Council, and CETL Item Writing Committee. She is a long-time member of ISTE and a recipient of the internationally recognized Making It Happen Award. Donna was also a recent participant in the CIO Summit.
