Jillisa Bronfman, Privacy Counsel, Common Sense Media, brings more than a decade of experience as a lawyer focusing on privacy and security, a university lecturer and scholar, a noted writer and media spokesperson, and a mentor to young students. With a joint J.D./M.A. degree from the University of Southern California in law and Communications Management and a dual undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in mass communications and history, Bronfman has a deep understanding of both the legal requirements and the technical aspects of privacy. She oversaw the Privacy and Technology Project, an academic nonprofit at University of California Hastings College of the Law, and was assistant general counsel at Verizon, analyzing and negotiating security and privacy contracts and procedures. At UC Hastings and San Francisco State University, she taught courses such as media ethics and privacy compliance, and she volunteered with 826 Valencia and ScholarMatch.
