Valerie Truesdale currently serves as Assistant Executive Director for AASA, The Superintendents Association. Formerly, she served as chief officer for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, leading technology, transformation and personalized learning. She is a founding member of North Carolina's CoSN chapter and a Certified Educational Technology Leader (CETL). Valerie was named superintendent of the year in 2009 by the SC Association of School Administrators and received their Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012. In 2015, Valerie was named one of the nation’s Top 30 Technologists, Transformers and Trailblazers by the Center for Digital Education. She was named Charlotte CIO of the Year in 2016 for her contributions to education technology. Valerie formerly served as a superintendent, chief instructional services officer, deputy superintendent for state department of education, a high school principal and most importantly, a teacher.
