Redesigning Learning Spaces
8:00 AM - 11:00 AM: AM Workshops
Room: Skyline I (Hilton Portland Downtown)
Format: Pre/Post Conference Half-day Workshop - 3 Hours
Brief Session Description: The class of 2030 will enter a world where design for surprise and delight will supplant the "bells and cells" of 19th and 20th century classroom design. Learning space design is an integral element in preparing them for this new reality.
Inspired by the "sticky" engineering of Silicon Valley, where game design surprises us and keeps us clicking, learning spaces for the classes of 2020 to 2030 can accommodate a stimulus-rich environment where new ideas and experiences are continuously emerging. Join a workshop on design for surprising learning spaces and experience a fast track cycle of empathy, discovery, ideation, prototyping and testing with the COSN community.
Bring your ideas on projects of any size, including a pilot classroom-wing renovation, major renovation and addition, new school, or a district wide master plan. You will come away with mind maps, design patterns and a vision for next steps. Not only will you learn the principles of how learning space design materially affects learning outcomes, you will actually experience the entire fast track cycle, creating and sharing engaging learning spaces using augmented reality and the powerful but simple to use 3DBear Augmented Reality App.
