Performance Arrays - Technology Enhanced Feedback Tools
1:15 PM - 1:45 PM: Breakout
Room: Galleria I (Hilton Portland Downtown)
Format: Concurrent Session - 30 Minutes
Primary Essential Skill: Data Management
Secondary Essential Skill: Leadership and Vision
Primary Audience: School System Administrators
Brief Session Description: This presentation aims to provide a better understanding of how data can be effectively utilized by identifying the factors that contribute to a school district's ability to utilize performance arrays - tools that manage, analyze and data mine (Bain & Weston, 2012) - so that feedback is provided to inform decision makers and to enhance student achievement. By leveraging existing relationships with K-12 schools Indiana University has launched an Ed-Fi powered consortium (INsite - Indiana Student Information to Empower) that engages the Center for Evaluation and Education Policy (CEEP) research center to establish feedback loops so that teachers have measurable criteria to confirm student progress; to enable each district to establish meaningful thresholds for students so that interventions can occur prior to an education crisis; and to empower school decision makers with data presented in a way that they can visualize so as to promote data-driven decision making.
