Preparing ALL Students for an Era of Continuous Digital Disruption
9:15 AM - 10:15 AM: Breakout
Room: Directors Suite (Hilton Portland Downtown)
Format: Concurrent Session - 60 Minutes
Brief Session Description: In an age of accelerating digital disruption, we must rethink the way in which we educate students. Instructional technology is a great first step but it doesn't go far enough and often lacks customer focus. Focusing on the 'why' changes the strategies needed in schools. All students will be impacted by digital disruption. Most are already interacting with intelligent agents in their daily lives. The careers they are preparing for today will change before their accept their first job offer. This session will cover the 'case for change in K12', research related to the new literacies and cognitive capacities needed to "robot-proof" education, an overview of the AI4K12 initiative, and a K12 case study demonstrating how ISTE and CSTA standards can be leveraged to prepare and assess technological literacy as part of 'College and Career Readiness' in the 21st Century and beyond.
