Brief Session Description: School districts handle all kinds of personally identifiable information on students and employees every day. This data must be protected, and there a wide variety of legal requirements on both the federal and state levels that must be met. In addition, the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation has implications on school districts that may be handling data from European Union citizens in foreign exchange programs for teachers and students or conducting other global education initiatives. In this session, participants will learn what school district administrators and others should know about handling data, assessing privacy violation risks, and technical strategies, along with guidance on best practice planning for data privacy and protection.
