Brief Session Description: Some educators in K12 see cybersecurity as the enemy of innovation. The very thought of cyber-safety practices brings about images of digital locks and bars that must be "broken through" to get to the plethora of exciting resources that can empower students and enhance their learning experiences. Many technology staff members still operate from the point of view that their sole objective is to protect the network - at all costs. Their goal is to make it difficult to get into the network, both for the hacker and, unfortunately, sometimes for the students and staff as well. However, innovation and cyber safety are not mutually exclusive. This session will look at ways that instruction and technology can work hand-in-hand to support innovation in the classroom while still observing cyber-safety best practices.
