Brief Session Description: Students are inherently curious problem solvers. This common thread crosses all lines, ethnicities, genders and schools. While STEAM education is a priority for K-12, ensuring equity of access to high-quality STEAM programs for all students remains challenging. Is your learning institution stepping up to this challenge? During this session, you will hear from three leading Pacific Northwest districts- Beaverton, Highline and Hillsboro, as they share how they are building successful and equitable STEAM programs to empower ALL students. Beaverton administrators will discuss their initiatives, including the creation of a "STEM Bus" which travels around to different schools with various hands-on STEM activities. Highline and Hillsboro leaders will share how they have created STEAM continuums, and are pushing STEAM literacy, especially for elementary students, with a focus on computational thinking and computer science. Leave this session with concrete ideas on how to build a successful STEAM continuum for all learners.
