Student Privacy and Intelligent Personal Assistants in Classrooms
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM: Breakout
Room: Directors Suite (Hilton Portland Downtown)
Format: Concurrent Session - 60 Minutes
Brief Session Description: Many of us have intelligent personal assistants in our homes that provide us with access to music, news, home security systems and each other. As with other AI technology, teachers are requesting that these voice- activated devices be allowed in their classrooms in order for students to access information and engage in a more active learning environment. This panel style session will explore the student data privacy concerns that will need to be addressed when these devices find their way into our districts. Working in collaborative groups, attendees will address the negative impact and possible federal student data privacy violations that these devices can bring to our district. Using the new CoSN Protecting Privacy in Connected Learning Toolkit, attendees will develop district-wide strategies for what happens when our educators invite "Alexa" and "Google" into their classrooms.
