Brief Session Description: Dallas ISD's Public School Choice (PSC) model goes far beyond what is typically seen in large, urban school districts. From Montessori and Single Gender models to Magnets to Collegiate Academies, Dallas ISD is quickly establishing itself as a district of choice where every student can find a "best-fit" school. The district's blended learning initiative, for instance, launched with five schools in 2015-16 and has already expanded to serve over 50,000 students across the district. Dallas ISD has also used school choice to bridge the postsecondary divide with 23 Collegiate Academies through which students can earn as associate's degree during high school at no cost to them. The majority of these academies are Pathways to Technology Early College High Schools. Finally, the district is pioneering socioeconomic integration through its signature lottery-based choice school model which prioritizes admitting 50% of students from low-income households and 50% from non-low income households.
