Finding Your Tribe: Building Your Chapter Into a Community

Sense of community is a feeling that SVA members need -- a feeling of belonging where members matter to one another and to the group, and a shared faith that members' needs will be met through their commitment to be together.

When we leave military service, we are stripped of two very important things: purpose and community. Our whole identity is based upon being united with our fellow service members in a shared purpose. Whether they know it or not, most student veterans are yearning to experience that again when they arrive on a college campus.

This session will be an interactive presentation focused on teaching SVA chapter leaders, officers and advisors how to build a sense of community in their chapter. The content of this presentation will be based on the four elements of community posited in "A Sense of Community: A Definition & Theory" by Chavis & McMillan.
