Engaging Student Veterans in the Greater Community

Those that separate from the military often struggle through the exploration of their identities outside of the military, developing healthy relationships with non-military students, and discovering their new purpose. A variety of common obstacles prevent student veterans from connecting to and engaging with many opportunities. This presentation will explore some of the reasons for this phenomenon and provide action points for engaging the student veteran population in purpose-focused and impactful actions on and off campus. The foundation of this presentation is the emerging adult development theory titled Engaged Transition Theory and programming provided by the Travis Manion Foundation. Additionally, we will outline why having this population engaged is so important to the greater community across the national landscape.
