Black Sexual Epistemology: Re-Centering African Americans in the Sex Positivity Movement
Description: Sex positivity are major buzz-words within the contemporary sex ed movement; very rarely, however, do African Americans lead those discussions, nor are they actively included. A cursory glance at the sexual history of the United States reveals this systematic marginalization of African American sexuality, while simultaneous drawing from it in the development of its own sexual identity. What is this history of Black sexual "Columbusing", and what might Black sexuality be without it? Research on this topic will be shared.
Objective(s): At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to: explain the basic tenets of Black Sexual Epistemological theory; analyze the basic tenets of Black Sexual Epistemological theory, as shared by the presenter.
