The Right to Parent: Addressing Social, Political and Therapeutic Barriers for Gender and Sexual Minorities Wanting to Parent
Description: For many people, the desire to parent is a social and biological need that is deeply linked with sexual identity and development. This is also true for LGBTQ individuals. However, despite the recent confirmation of marriage equality in the U.S. there continues to be social, political, and therapeutic barriers for LGT individuals interested in becoming parents. During this session attendees will learn about these barriers as well as a counseling framework designed to support LGBT individuals as they pursue parenthood.
Objective(s): At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to: identify three therapeutic strategies that assist LGBT individuals as they manage the social and political barriers towards parenthood.
