A Collaborative Structure for Student Veteran Success: Our Journey from Grassroots to Strategic Office.
Track: Higher Education
This presentation will discuss the evolution from a grassroots task force effort to the development of a strategic level office at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Under senior level leadership, the office aligns veteran and military related functions to coordinate, integrate and facilitate support across campus and enhance overall student success. In this session, you will learn about our experiences in working through an ad hoc task force, transitioning to a presidential committee comprised of multidisciplinary members, and culminating in a centralized department that combines all services and veteran needs under one umbrella. The new Veteran and Military Affairs department serves as the key liaison and coordination point for targeting services to best fit the student veteran and military affiliated student. Regardless of the current structure of veteran support at your institution, this presentation will provide you with tools to leverage collaboration on behalf of student veterans.
