Title: Sound Financial Management Behaviors and Relationship Quality
Friday, November 17th, 2017
Few studies have examined the longitudinal association between sound financial management behaviors and relationship quality. We use a longitudinal data set of nearly 350 married and cohabiting couples to examine this association. We also examined the potential mediators. We found that the best longitudinal relationship between the variables was to have same-panel sound financial management predicting relationship quality after accounting for previous levels of relationship quality. Feelings of economic stability was the only mediator of this association. This suggests that sound financial management behaviors increase feelings of economic stability which then enhance relationship quality over time.
