8:15 AM - 9:20 AM: Breakout 5
I recantly became a Standards for Excellence(R) Licensed Consultant. The Standards for Excellence aree comprised of 6 Guiding Principles, 27 area of focus and 67 benechmarks. Public Awreness, Enagement and Advocacy is one on the 6 Guiidng Principles. I will use the Standards for Excellence, as well as other highly-regarded best-practice sources, as a basis for this session. I will share advice on best practices related to nonprofits communicating to and engaging their various audiences.

Since I am a veteran fundraiser, I will present from that perspective.

I think this session would be most useful to small shops, newly formed nonprofits, and/or fundraising and/or marketing staff at nonprofits still early in their careers.

By attending this session participants will learn: ~ The three key public awareness elements of this Standard: Communicate, Engage and Educate and the strategies for each.
~ Learn the activities that nonprofits should undertake to foster trust and transparency. I'll discuss legal disclosure requirements; the 5 key elements of an annual report, methods for two-way communication.
~ The benefits of engaging its audiences and how to begin planning public engagement strategies, and and discuss what policies organizations and its leaders should consider implementing in relationship to sharing its information with the public.

I will pose questions related to this topic, field answers from attendees and facilitate robust discussions. I will provide a check-list to be used as a guide BEFORE they release materials to the public.

I will discuss charity monitoring organizations such as GuideStar and Charity Navigator.
