Brief Session Description: Information technology and technical support are integral to the mission of K-12 school districts. The uninterrupted and efficient functioning of all computer systems and equipment requires a very skilled and experienced IT staff. Many K-12 school districts have been severely challenged in recent years by the impact of cuts in educational funding and the lack of clear compensation and professional growth models for IT staff. The demand for experienced and well trained IT professionals has increased rapidly and has outpaced the pool of available labor in many markets. In order to retain and attract experienced and well qualified IT staff Districts need to consider new models for retaining, recruiting, and rewarding It professionals. This session will offer solutions and models for professional growth and compensation created by three Wisconsin School Districts: Stevens Point Area Public School District, Appleton Area School District, and the School District of Janesville.
