Brief Session Description: Looking to develop or refine your roadmap for planning, designing and implementing effective online professional development (PD)? This hands-on, interactive workshop will engage participants in exploration and discussion of online PD needs, appropriate uses, models and implementation strategies. As a concrete example, we will review the process of augmenting a successful face-to-face PD program for computer science teachers, with powerful online PD components to increase flexibility, scale, reach, and learning community connections among colleagues. We will discuss strategies for evaluating and creating online PD experiences, and we will complete activities in several different online PD courses to experience the variety of models and learning experiences that are possible in this environment. Participants will take away a roadmap of considerations for planning effective implementation of online PD to meet their local needs, and access to a variety of online PD examples for future reference and exploration.
