Brief Session Description: Utah Education Network, a statewide organization that provides internet and network connectivity and educational technology resources for schools in the state, is currently providing an outside evaluation for district technology departments in Utah. This evaluation enables school district leaders to understand the organization, processes, projects and tasks of their educational technology department as they strive to support education in the district. This crucial technology evaluation process has been developed and refined over the last several years and is successfully helping district leadership gain the knowledge and understanding they need to better transform the classroom learning environment with technology tools and make digital teaching and learning a reality for their schools.

This presentation will provide details on this highly effective process, including:
? Data collection and analysis that is being implemented in Utah.
? An overview of the evaluation results for the participating districts.
? The importance of outside third-party evaluations over and above self -evaluation.
? Developing district leadership human capacity through this effective evaluation processes.
? A review of current trends regarding technology evaluations for educational technology departments.
