Changing Education from the Inside Out - The Singapore American Story
8:00 AM - 9:00 AM:
Room: Michigan B
Format: Concurrent Session - 60 Minutes
Track: International
Brief Session Description: The traditional education system, built on the foundation that academic content knowledge is king, is no longer adequate to prepare our children for the 21st century workforce. There is a sense of urgency for change, but figuring out what to change, and helping change the mindsets of educators, parents, and children themselves is incredibly challenging.

Singapore American School, a US based school of 4000 students in SE Asia has taken on an ambitious change agenda. They have challenged assumptions and re-tooled the school system, even with a record of phenomenal success. This session is about their change journey. Superintendent Dr. Chip Kimball will share what they did and what they learned along the way. He will introduce a just released documentary about their journey, and his leadership insights along their interesting and sometime painful journey of change.
