Dr. Ying Zhang, MD, PhD, is a Professor at Department of Molecular Microbiology & Immunology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His research interests are in bacterial drug resistance, persistence, pathogenesis, and development of more effective treatments for persistent infections. Although much of his research career is on tuberculosis, in recent years, he has been working on the persistence problem in Lyme disease. His group recently identified a range of FDA-approved drugs that have high activity against Borrelia persisters. In collaboration with colleagues, he is interested to evaluate the drug combination regimens with Borrelia persister drugs for more effective treatment of persistent Lyme disease.
