Bioengineer Phd Valerie Obsomer worked for 15 years in risk assessment for vector-borne diseases in Africa, Europe, Asia and the USA. In 2013 she published two scientific articles that uncovered the current Lyme disease epidemic in Belgium. She currently leads two major initiatives : 1) a public surveys TEKENTIQUES on tick bites and associated symptoms in several countries; 2) a group of now 50 Lyme-literate/sensitized doctors CHRONIMED BENELUX in Benelux. She has been recently invited to talk to the Belgian federal parliament, the regional ministries of health and of the environment. She advocates to the Belgian government and the EU the need to urgently reduce tick bites by identifying « natural » repellents and « natural » methods to eradicate ticks from gardens and parks.
