Pushing Online Student Engagement to New Horizons
Distance learning can become a one-way flow of information without quality engagement between faculty and students. Traditional classroom tools may not be sufficient for the online teaching environment. There are many tools that address this problem. This session will discuss some robust tools that enhance interaction in your online classes.

Dr. Barbara Oates, Texas A&M University-Kingsville
Barbara R. Oates, PhD is a tenured professor of marketing at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in the College of Business Administration. Barbara has over two decades of marketing experience before she started teaching.
Barbara has incorporated distance learning technologies in her teaching since 2000, first using WebCT and Video Conferencing. She uses Blackboard LMS extensively for her face to face web substituted courses. She has earned certifications in instructional design, instructional technology and instructional coaching. She is Quality Matters certified. Barbara has been recognized for her research and teaching with several awards. Barbara completed her Doctoral degree in Marketing from University of North Texas.
 
Mr. Harmeet Singh, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Lecturer
Harmeet Singh is an instructor of economics at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in the College of Business Administration. Harmeet is able to bring real world experiences into the classroom with his decade long experience in small and medium enterprises, including employment in the oil field industry prior to joining higher education.
Harmeet incorporates distance learning technologies in both online and traditional instruction. He has earned certifications in instructional technology and instructional coaching along with having completed several instructional design workshops.
Harmeet has been recognized for his research and teaching with several awards. He has published original research in pricing, strategy, operations management, currency valuations and international trade. Harmeet completed his Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Economics from the College of Business Administration, at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 2010.
 
Ms. Cynthia Farias, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Multimedia Instructional Specialist
Cynthia Farias is the Multimedia Instructional Specialist in the Distance Learning & Instructional Technology department at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Cynthia helps faculty incorporate videos into their online and hybrid classes. In the fall of 2013, she developed a certification course which certifies TAMUK faculty in the use of video conference, web conference, and lecture capture capabilities at TAMUK. She is currently seeking her Masters in Instructional Technology from the College of Education at Texas A&M-Kingsville. She has been at the university for over 19 years.
