If you are a solo fundraiser or part of a small development team, you know there's often just not enough bandwidth to get everything done. In this session, we will identify elements of the development process that can be outsourced and share tips on working effectively with external resources. We'll go over how to prioritize your needs and develop a strategy to create a scalable fundraising operation for your organization. Specifically, we'll look at options for prospect research, data analysis, grantwriting, social media engagement, marketing, and planned giving. We'll address how to find the best people or tools, and how to manage each project so you, your organization and your resources are all happy with each engagement.
Speakers will share case studies and insights from their work with clients to address how small nonprofits can thrive and grow by using external resources to leverage their in-house capabilities, including the Foundation Center which supports small nonprofits. You will hear about some of the search tools used when guiding nonprofits through prospect research and other free online resources, classes and special programs to learn best practices. Together, the speakers will address some of the biggest challenges small nonprofits face and present tactical solutions to the staffing and overhead issues organizations are tackling in the current economy.

How to conduct prospect research like a large nonprofit when it comes to prospect research, as well as the many resources available for smaller grassroots organizations at the Foundation Center, including options for fundraising assistance, strategy development, and donor acquisition.

Insider tips on working effectively with external resources, including developing RFPs, outlining a clear scope of work, negotiating a fair rate that takes into account goals and the timeline, and managing the work via regular meetings and deliverables.
