4:00 PM - 5:15 PM: Breakout 4
We'll look at storytelling ideas from a new perspective - though the prism of stand-up comedy. There are certain fundamentals that the best comedians have to learn that every nonprofit needs to know too - what makes you different, how to find your voice, how to grab people's attention with your story, and how to communicate in a way that connects with people, across any channel - in person, on paper, or digitally.
In this session, hosted by Leigh Kessler, Vice President of Marketing at CharityEngine and a former nationally touring stand-up comic and TV personality, we'll step outside the nonprofit space and inside the world of stand-up comedy, highlighting the journey that stand-up comedians go to find their voice, hone their craft, engage audiences, navigate different audiences, and tell their story so that people want to hear more of their material.
We'll then apply those principals to the world of online fundraising and marketing and look at nonprofits who do it with great success through their website experience, with a particular dive into the recent branding and website redevelopment of Tree House Humane Society, who used humor and pop-culture to engage donors in their mission as "a cageless, no kill humane organization specializing in the rescue and rehabilitation of sick and injured stray cats."
