Hitting the One-Day Development Trifecta - Pro Bono Volunteerism, Acquisition & Fundraising: Lessons Learned From the Largest Nonprofit ScopeAthon in History
Friday, July 15th, 2016
11:15 AM - 12:30 PM: Breakout 6
Come explore how Taproot Foundation and five DC chapters of the Project Management Institute married to the idea of a Run/Walk with probono volunteerism, in essence combining programming, fundraising and acquisition into a single event, for the first-ever Project Management Day of Service.
We'll show how nonprofits can do the same thing: engaging business people in skills-based volunteerism as a launch point for acquisition and fundraising.
Hear the case study of four hundred-plus DC-area project managers donating their skill set to nearly one hundred NPOs in the largest ScopeAthon in history. Spotlighted by the White House as an example of corporate volunteerism, the volunteer-managed event was attended by US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker. Roughly $240K and 1200 hours of probono services were provided in one day.
Through this case study we'll provide an understanding of how this group of volunteers, with no experience putting on such an event, came together to make it an enormous success. We'll provide a blueprint for launching similar events, demonstrating how the pieces of the puzzle fit together over the seven month lead-up. We'll discuss strategy for technology, fundraising tools, communications, and event operations. Attendees will walk away with insights for launching or improving their own volunteer events.
