Calling Corporate Partners to Action for Advocacy: No Kid Hungry's Strategy for Child Nutrition Reauthorization

In 2014, No Kid Hungry launched an aggressive advocacy effort to affect the future of summer meals for hungry kids nationwide through the federal Child Nutrition Reauthorization. To support CNR as a top organizational priority, No Kid Hungry took an "all hands on deck" approach to broadly activating our network, with an emphasis on amplifying the influence of our leading funders.
This session will take you on retrospective look at how this corporate engagement strategy evolved, examine the biggest wins and what emerged as best practices. This will include a look at what took place behind the curtain at No Kid Hungry to develop this strategy internally, how we approached companies to initiate this conversation, and what we heard from Members of Congress and others that validated the effectiveness of our approach.
Understanding the challenges and comparing the successes in corporate engagement for the CNR to the difficulties experienced with previous No Kid Hungry advocacy initiatives, we hope to shed light on how to assess when the time is right to employ a corporate advocacy engagement strategy. Topics will be relevant to organizations seeking guidance to help improve their existing corporate advocacy engagement strategies and as well as those interested in exploring these opportunities for the first time.
