Introduction to the CBE National Landscape Project

Erin Knepler serves as the project manager and oversees knowledge management for the Competency-Based Education Network (C-BEN). She provides support to institutional teams and leads C-BEN research activities. Additionally, Erin manages multiple projects working with dozens of colleges and universities across the country to support student success.

In January 2015, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation partnered with Public Agenda to build a shared understanding of the need for a broad view of competency-based education (CBE) and to issue a "call to action" to postsecondary actors at higher education institutions who can position CBE in a way that advances conversations about educational quality, equity, and learning. This session will share the outcomes of this work, including a CBE Ecosystem and Landscape map, a set of universal design elements and practice approaches, and the framework for a future research agenda.
