John B. Kendrick is Assistant Vice President of Development, Planned Giving, at the George Washington University, where he leads a team of nine planned giving professionals in the university's central development office. Total GW Planned Gifts exceeded $30 million in FY 2014.
John started his career in the private sector at Young & Rubicam and later served in a variety of executive-level positions in the marketing and advertising fields. Inspired by helping his parents establish planned gifts at GW, John shifted his career focus to nonprofit development work in 2000. Prior to joining GW, John led the Smithsonian Institution's planned giving program. He also worked in development at The National Academies and Hood College.
John is an alumnus of Cornell University and also holds an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. He is a former board member of the National Capital Gift Planning Council and a founding member of the annual National Capital Philanthropic Thought Leaders Retreat.
