Michele has served as the executive director of Safe Shores -- The DC Children's Advocacy Center since June 2003. Safe Shores is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides intervention, hope and healing for children and families affected by abuse, violence and trauma in DC. In advocating on behalf of DC's vulnerable children, Michele led the organization to its new site and diversified its funding. Under her leadership Safe Shores has successfully implemented the Benevon model for sustainable funding, positively transforming the organization in areas beyond fundraising. A graduate of Harvard-Radcliffe College and Georgetown University Law Center, Michele has been a commentator on WAMU radio and a guest on the Kojo Nnamdi Show and WHUR's The Daily Drum and The Sighlent Storm. Michele's opinion pieces have appeared in The Washington Post, TheRootDC and The Washington Informer. For her work at Safe Shores, she's received awards from the Center for Nonprofit Advancement, Washingtonian Magazine, the Meyer Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
