A Subject Index of Free On-line Labs for Astro 101
Conference Strand: Teaching Introductory Astronomy – What are We Doing Now?
Andrew Fraknoi, Fromm Institute, U of San Francisco
Abstract of Session/Presentation: I am compiling a topical index of Astro 101 lab exercises that are available freely on the Web. This will enable users to look any larger topic in astronomy (telescope, terrestrial planets, stellar evolution) and find labs that can be used in conjunction. The list will be made available free of charge to anyone through the Open Education Resource Hub that goes with the OpenStax free astronomy textbook ( ) and other websites. I am familiar with the departmental lab manuals that are on-line through the astronomy departments of over a dozen universities, but would love to learn about individual lab exercises that have been put on line by NASA missions, education projects, and individual instructors or scientists. If you know of such activities that are free for colleagues to use, I would appreciate being notified at email: [email protected]
